Reecer Creek Floodplain Initial Stages Complete

Looking out at the newly restored floodplain it is hard to believe that in only a year a new levee was built, Reecer Creek was diverted, and the surrounding areas were replanted! Thanks to the hard work, dedication, and support of so many the initial stages of the Reecer Creek Restoration project are complete. We will begin maintenance at the site this spring. Reecer Creek Floodplain Planting

Please join us at one of our upcoming work parties to install more than 5,000 potted plants and 2,500 live stakes along the banks of Reecer Creek in Ellensburg. Work parties will be held on October 26, November 2, November 5, November 9 and November 12 at 9am and 12:30pm, and on November 11 (Veteran’s Day) at 12:30pm. Request for Proposals: Yakima Delta

Mid-Columbia Fisheries and Benton Conservation District are currently advertising a Request for Proposals for Temperature and Hydrodynamic Modeling of Causeway Modification near Bateman Island at the Mouth of the Yakima River. The RFP can be downloaded here: Yakima_Delta_RFP_02152011, or from our contractor information page. A list of questions and answers from potential respondents is also being maintained on the contractor information page. Proposals are due to Mid-Columbia Fisheries by March 15, 2011.

Jack Creek Engineering RFP

Mid-Columbia Fisheries is currently advertising a Request for Proposals for Engineering for the Jack Creek Floodplain Restoration Project.

The Jack Creek Restoration project aims to restore streambank condition, floodplain function, and spawning and rearing habitat for steelhead, Chinook, interior redband and westslope cutthroat in the lower two reaches of Jack Creek, a tributary to the North Fork Teanaway River in Kittitas County, WA. Restoration will be achieved by restoring stream processes in Jack Creek, adding large wood to the stream, revegetating the stream banks and floodplain, relocating nearly one mile of USDA Forest Service Road 9738, and restoring floodplain function in the footprint of the old road. Ellensburg company Belsaas and Smith began work on the Reecer Creek Floodplain Restoration project in the end of September. The foundation of the new setback levee is being established. Photos and project information are available here.
